Shanghai residents receive green points in the city’s mobility app for taking the bus or train.

Users of Shanghai’s Suishenxing, a mobility service platform, may control every facet of daily transportation inside the city, from using the subway to calling a cab or paying for parking. Every time a city resident chooses a more environmentally friendly form of transportation, the city now rewards them with green credits, encouraging low-carbon options within that mix.

According to Shine, the app compares 10 km travelled by bus or metro to a reduction of 1 kg in CO2 emissions. Users can view their credit balance following each ride. They will soon be able to exchange them for presents in Suishenxing’s online store.
